You can put this solution on YOUR website! If you have 7 pounds of sugar and 2 pounds of coffee that cost $8.50 and, if at the same price per pound, you have 5 pounds of sugar and 3 pounds of coffee that cost $10.00, how much is one pound of each item?
------
Value Eq:
7s + 2c = 850 cents
5s + 3c = 1000 cents
------------------------
Multiply thru 1st by 3
Multiply thru 2nd by 2
21s + 6c = 3*850
10s + 6c = 2000
----------------------------
Subtract and solve for "s":
11s = 550
s = 50 cents (cost of pound of sugar)
-----
Solve for "c":
5s + 3c = 1000
5*50 + 3c = 1000
250 + 3c = 1000
3c = 750
c = 250 cents (cost of pound of coffee)
