Question 553642: One day a store sold 21 sweatshirts. White ones cost $11.95 and yellow ones cost $13.50. In all $268.00 worth of sweatshirts were sold. How many of each color were sold? Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source):
1 x + 1 y = 21 .............1
11.95 x + 13.5 y = 268 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by 13.5
Multiply (2) by -1
13.5 x 13.5 y = 283.5
-11.95 x -13.5 y = -268
Add the two equations
1.55 x = 15.5
/ 1.55
x = 10
plug value of x in (1)
1 x + 1 y = 21
10 + 1 y = 21
1 y = 21
1 y = 11
y = 11

yellow 11 numbers
