You can put this solution on YOUR website!
first part 40 mph
second part 35 mph
total distance = 265 miles
let first part distance be x
second part distance = 265-x
first part time + second part time = 7 hours
t=d/r
x/40 + (265-x)/35 =7
Multiply equation by 35*40=1400
35 x + 40 (265-x) = 7*1400
35x+10600-40x=9800
-5x=-800
/-5
x=160 miles First part
balance 265-160= 105 miles second part

Tom traveled a distance of 265miles. He drove at 40mi/hr during the first part of the trip and at 35mi/hr during the remaining part. If he made the trip in 7hours, how long did he travel at 40mi/hr? Please thank you <3 And sorry for the trouble :( Happy New Year, tutors! <3

Let time he drove at 40 mph be T
Then time he drove at 35 mph = 7 – T

Distance at 40 mph + distance at 35 mph = total distance

Therefore, 40(T) + 35(7 – T) = 265
40T + 245 – 35T = 265
5T = 20

T, or time he drove at 40 mph = 20%2F5, or highlight_green%284%29 hours
