9 -(3-x) = 14(subtract with 9 on both sides)
=>-(3-x)=14-9 (multiply with '-' sign)
=>3+x=5
=>x=5-3
=>x=2

9 - 3 + x = 14 ---- Distributing, or getting rid of parentheses

6 + x = 14

x = 14 - 6

x =

Do the check to determine if an x-value of 8 indeed makes the equation true!
