You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Emma, Jackson, and Nicholas have been selling raffle tickets to raise money for the math club.
:
Write an equation for each statement:
:
Emma sold 5 less than twice as many tickets as Nicholas.
e = 2n-5
:
Jackson sold 10 more than twice as many as Nicholas.
j = 2n + 10
:
Together the three sold 180 tickets.
e + j + n = 180
From the 1st two statements we can substitute for e and j
(2n-5) + (2n+10) + n = 180
2n + 2n + n - 5 + 10 = 180
5n + 5 = 180
5n = 180-5
n = 175%2F5
n = 35 tickets solve by Nicholas
:
I'll let you find e and j, see that all three add up to 180
