You can put this solution on YOUR website!
All you need to do here is plug in the x values to find the y for the equation:
y = -4x – 2
y=-4*1-2=-6
(1,-6)
y=-4*-1-2=4-2=2
(-1,2)
(
y=-4*-3-2=12-2=10
(-3,10)

Given the linear equation y = -4x – 2, find the y-coordinates of the points (1, ), (-1, ), and (-3, ). Plot these points and graph the linear equation.
y = -4x - 2

Find the y-value for the ordered pair (1, )

Substitute (1) in place of x in

y = -4x - 2      and simplify:
y = -4(1) - 2
y = -4 - 2
y = -6

So the ordered pair is (1,-6)

Now let's plot that point. Notice that it is directly
under 1 on the x-axis and it is directly to the right
of -6 on the y-axis

Find the y-value for the ordered pair (-1, )

Substitute (-1) in place of x in

y = -4x - 2      and simplify:
y = -4(-1) - 2
y = 4 - 2
y = 2

So the ordered pair is (-1,2)

Now let's plot that point. Notice that it is directly
above -1 on the x-axis and it is directly to the left
of 2 on the y-axis

Find the y-value for the ordered pair (-3, )

Substitute (-3) in place of x in

y = -4x - 2      and simplify:
y = -4(-3) - 2
y = 12 - 2
y = 10

So the ordered pair is (-3,10)

Now let's plot that point. Notice that it is directly
above -3 on the x-axis and it is directly to the left
of 10 on the y-axis

Now lat's get a ruler and we see the magic of algebra.
All those points lie on a straight line. We'll get a green
pen and draw a green straight line through all three of those points.
