You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You use the Pythagorean theorem to find the distance. For lines, its %28x1-x2%29%5E2%2B%28y1-y2%29%5E2=d%5E2
Let's plug in your numbers:
%28-6--1%29%5E2+%2B+%28-5-3%29%5E2+=+d%5E2
and do some math
%28-5%29%5E2+%2B+%28-8%29%5E2+=+d%5E2
25%2B64+=+d%5E2
89+=+d%5E2
sqrt%2889%29+=+d
