The definition of a logarithm is y=log%28b%2Cx%29 if and only if b%5Ey=x
A logarithm is basically the short form of this question: What power do raise my base to, to get X.
So for 4%5E2=16 what power do raise 4 to, to get 16? 2. In log form this question would be written log%284%2C16%29=2
Now with y to the z power = 5 my question is what power do raise my base (y) to , to get 5 and the answer is z and it's written as log%28y%2C5%29=z
