Question 549909: Solve: absolute value of 8X-2= absolute value of 9X+4.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! first we need to break this in three parts.
8x-2= 0 then x= 2/8= 1/4
9x+4=0 then x= -4/9
so, three intervals are x<-4/9, -4/9<=x<=1/4 and x>1/4
for the first interval x<-4/9
both expressions are negative, so
-(8x-2)=-(9x+4)
8x-2 =9x+4
-6=x, this is less than -4/9so x=-6 is one solution.
for the second interval -4/9 < =x <=1/4
first part is negative and second is positive.
so,
-(8x-2)=9x+4
-8x+2 = 9x+4
17x= -2
x= -2/17
so, this is also lies in the interval range.
now, for the third interval x>1/4 , both are positive
so,
8x-2=9x+4
x=-6
this is not greater than 1/4
so, this is no solution for the third case.
so,
x= -6 and -2/17 are the answers of this question.
