1 x + 1 y = 40 .............1
5.00 x + 25.00 y = 440.00 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by -25
Multiply (2) by 1
-25 x -25 y = -1000
5 x + 25 y = 440
Add the two equations
-20 x = -560.00
/ -20
x = 28
plug value of x in (1)
1 x + 1 y = 40
28 + 1 y = 40
1 y = 40
1 y = 12
y = 12
nickels numbers 28
quarters numbers 12
