You can put this solution on YOUR website!

3x%2B7y=4 Start with the given equation.

7y=4-3x Subtract 3x from both sides.

7y=-3x%2B4 Rearrange the terms.

y=%28-3x%2B4%29%2F%287%29 Divide both sides by 7 to isolate y.

y=%28%28-3%29%2F%287%29%29x%2B%284%29%2F%287%29 Break up the fraction.

y=-%283%2F7%29x%2B4%2F7 Reduce.

So the equation y=-%283%2F7%29x%2B4%2F7 is now in slope intercept form y=mx%2Bb where the slope is m=-3%2F7 and the y-intercept is b=4%2F7 note: the y-intercept is the point

Given the equation: 3x%2B7y=4
.
You are to find the slope of the graph for this equation.
.
One way of doing this is to rearrange the given equation so it is in the slope-intercept form which is:
.
y+=+mx+%2B+b
.
When you get it into this form, m, the quantity multiplying the x term, will be the slope, and b will be the value on the y-axis where the graph crosses.
.
Start with:
.
3x%2B7y=4 and the plan is to solve for y with everything else on the right side.
.
Start by subtracting 3x from both sides. When you do that the 3x disappears on the left side and the equation becomes:
.
7y+=+-3x+%2B+4
.
Next solve for y by dividing both sides (all terms) by 7 to get:
.
y+=+%28-3%2F7%29x+%2B+4%2F7
.
This is in the slope intercept form. You can see that the multiplier of the x term is -3%2F7 and that is the value of the slope. The b term is 4%2F7 and that is the value on the y-axis where the graph crosses.
.
So, the slope is -3%2F7 and that is the answer to this problem.
.
Hope this helps you to understand this problem.
