Question 547576: Mark has one less than twice the number of CD''s PHillip has. Together they have 65 CD'S. How many CD's does each boy have?"
I need to show my work on this one. I have a similar problem that I have the answer to. I worked it up and missed one step. This one my mother knows the answer, but not how to put it in algebra form.
Thank you for your time, VJ (and his mom)
PS: I'm in 8th grade.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
parents stick together...

"Mark has one less than twice the number of CD''s PHillip has" ___ m = 2p - 1

"Together they have 65 CD'S" ___ m + p = 65

subtracting the 1st eqn from the 2nd eqn ___ m + p - m = 65 - (2p - 1)

p = 66 - 2p ___ 3p = 66

substitute back to find m
