You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let a = number of $1 bills
Let b = number of $5 bills
------------------------
given:
(1) +1a+%2B+5b+=+124+
(2) +b+=+a+%2B+8+
Substitute (2) into (1) and solve
(1) +a+%2B+5%2A%28+a+%2B+8+%29+=+124+
(1) +a+%2B+5a+%2B+40+=+124+
(1) +6a+=+84+
(1) +a+=+14+
and, since
(2) +b+=+a+%2B+8+
(2) +b+=+14+%2B+8+
(2) +b+=+22+
There are 14 $1 bills and 22 $5 bills
check answer:
(1) +1a+%2B+5b+=+124+
(1) +1%2A14+%2B+5%2A22+=+124+
(1) +14+%2B+110+=+124+
(1) +124+=+124+
OK
