The slope, m, is defined as m=%28y%5B2%5D-y%5B1%5D%29%2F%28x%5B2%5D-x%5B1%5D%29. It doesn't matter which ordered pair is x%5B1%5D%2Cy%5B1%5D and x%5B2%5D%2Cy%5B2%5D because you'll get the same answer. Using substitution we get m=%28-5-1%29%2F%28-2%2B1%29, which reduces to m=-6%2F-1, which simplifies to m=6.
