5(2)^x-3(2)^x-1= 224
2^(x-1)(5*2-3)=224
2^(x-1)(7)=224
2^(x-1)=224/7
Take log of both sides
(x-1) log(2)=log(224/7)
x-1=log(224/7)/log2=5
x=5+1=6
x=6
