Question 54353: Hi I am having really bad trouble with this problem and i have used all the posible solutions i can think of. I am trying to help my daughter and i have not been in algebra in 23 years and i do not remember a thing.
So if you could please give me the answer to this question in great deatail so maybe i can help her.
Here is the Question:
Find the coordinates of the vertices of each figure after the givin transformation is performed.
Triangle RST with R(-2,4),S(2,0),T(.1,.1) reflected over the y axis

Found 2 solutions by stanbon, funmath:

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

---------------
If a point (a,b) is reflected in the y-axis it become (-a,b)
So your points become:
(2,4), (-2,0), (-0.1,0.1)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
When you reflect something about the y axis, you want the point to have the same heighth, but be equally far on the other side of the y-axis. We can do that by changing the sign of x and keeping y the same.(x,y) would be (-x,y) and (-x,y) would be (x,y)
:
R(-2,4) would be (2,4)
S(2,0) would be (-2,0)
T(.1,.1) would be (-.1,.1)
:Plot the points and see that it's the same triangle flipped on it's side about the y-axis. I can't graph triangles on this or I'd show you.
Hope that helps.
