You can put this solution on YOUR website! I think the + sign in 1. is probably supposed to be =, as it is written you can only simplify by combining your like terms. Like terms are terms which have the same exact variables or not having variables:
6x-5+3x-29 The 6x and 3x are like terms and the -5 and -29 are like terms.
(6x+3x)+(-5-29)
9x-34
:
I am going to rewrite that as 6x-5=3x-29 and solve for x like I will the last two problems. First simplify both sides of the equation as much as you can. The goal in solving equations is to get the variable on one side of the equal sign and all of the numbers on the other side of the equal sign within the rules of algebra. What ever you do to one side of the equal sign you must do to the other.
1.
6x-5=3x-29 Subtract 3x from both sides to get all the x's on the left.
-3x+6x-5=-3x+3x-29
3x-5=-29 Add 5 to both sides to get the numbers without x's on the right.
3x-5+5=-29+5
3x=-24 The three is being multiplied on the left, so divide it from both sides.
3x/3=-24/3
Check by substituting x=-8 into the original equation and see if both sides equal:
6(-8)-5=3(-8)-29
-48-5=-24-29
-53=-53 We're right!
2.
5x+3+6x-11=8x+25 Combine the like terms on the left of = sign.
(5x+6x)+(3-11)=8x+25
11x-8=8x+25 Subtract 8x from both sides to get the x's on the left.
-8x+11x-8=-8x+8x+25
3x-8=25 Add 8 to both sides to get the numbers without x's on the right.
3x-8+8=25+8
3x=33 Divide both sides by 3 to get the x by itself.
3x/3=33/3
Check by substituting x=11 into the original equation.
5(11)+3+6(11)-11=8(11)+25
55+3+66-11=88+25
58+66-11=113
124-11=113
113=113 Right again!!
3.
4(-x-2)+5=-2(2x+7) First distribute the 4 on the left and the -2 on the right.
4(-x)+4(-2)+5=-2(2x)-2(7)
-4x-8+5=-4x-14 Combine like terms on the left.
-4x-3=-4x-14 Add 4x to both sides in an attempt to get all the x's on the left.
4x-4x-3=4x-4x-14
-3=-14 There are no more x's and -3 doesn't = -14, so there's no solution!
Happy Calculating!!!
