Question 54194: Ana and Carlos took turns driving round trip using the same route both ways. Ana drove the first 40 miles and then Carlos drove the rest of the way. Ana started to drive on the return trip and then Carlos drove the last 50 miles. Which of the two drove more miles and how many more did they drive? Answer by 303795(602) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Call the amount that Ann drove on the way back x so the one way trip distance is x+50.
On the first part of the journey Ann drove 40 miles so Carlos drove x+10 miles.
Ann's total driving distance is x+40 and Carlos' driving distance is x+10+50=x+60.
So Carlos drives an extra 20 miles.
