 :  I am working on the midsegments of trapezoids.  I have trapezoid FGHI, the midpoints, JK.  FG equation is x squared + x - 2.  IH equation is x squared +3x -12.  The midpoint, JK measurement is 8.
 I have to find the indicated measure.
 This is what I have so far,
 x squared + x - 2 + x squared + 3x - 12= 16
 2x squared + 4x - 14 = 16
 2x squared + 4x -30 = 0
 and this is where I am getting stuck.

 HI IS BOTTOM PARALLEL SIDE
 J IS MID POINT OF FI
 K IS MIDPOINT OF GH
 IH EQN CANNOT BE X^2+3X-12..HI BEING A STRAIGHT LINE IT HAS TO BE LINEAR EQN.
 THEN WHAT DO YOU WANT TO FIND?WHAT IS THAT INDICATED MEASURE?
