Question 541703: Trains A and B are traveling in the same direction on parallel tracks. Train A is traveling at 60 mph and train B is traveling at 80 mph. Train A passes the station at 1:15 PM. if train B passes at 1:30 PM what time will train B catch up to train A? Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! the distance traveled by both is same when one catches up with the other.
Let them meet at distance x
Train A speed= 60 mph , starts at 01:15 pm
Train B speed= 80 mph starts at 01:30 pm
Time difference between the starting of the two= 0.25 hours
Time taken by Train A = X / 60
Time taken by Train B = X / 80
X / 60 - X / 80 = 0.25
LCD - 240
Multiply equation by 240
240 / 60 x- 240 / 80 x= 0.25 * 240
4 x - 3 x = 60
1 x = 60
/ 1
x= 60 miles
Train A speed= 60 mph
Distance = 60 miles
Time taken = 60 / 60
Time taken = 1 hour
They will be together at 02:15 pm
