You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The goal is to get the x all by itself in the middle, whatever you do to the middle to get x by itself you have to do to each end.
-1%3C=3-2x%3C11
-1-3%3C=-3%2B3-2x%3C11-3
-4%3C=-2x%3C8
-4%2F-2%3E=-2x%2F-2%3E8%2F-2When you multiply or divide by a negative sign, flip the inequality signs.
2%3E=x%3E-4Write in smaller to larger order. Keep an eye on the inequality signs. They still need to point to the same numbers.
highlight%28-4%3Cx%3C=2%29
This means that x is greater than (but not equal to)-4 and less than or equal to 2. Equal gets a bracket and not equal gets a parenthesis:
Interval notation: (-4,2]
Notice the similarity between the interval notation and the number line graph:
Graph:
<------(============]--->
-6,-5,-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4
