You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"4 years ago Jane was twice as old as Alice. In 4 more years Alice will be 2/3 of Jane's age now. How old is Alice now?"
----
Equations:
(j-4)= 2(a-4)
(a+4) = (2/3)j
--------------------
Rearrange:
2a - j = 4
a - (2/3)j = -4
-----------------------
Modify:
2a - j = 4
2a - (4/3)j = -8
----------------------
Subtract and solve for "j":
(1/3)j = 12
j = 36 yrs (jane's age now)
----------------------
Solve for "a":
a = (2/3)j-4
a = (2/3)36-4
a = 20 yrs (Alice's age now)
