Question 541077: If 4^(x+1)=2 what is x?
Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4^(x + 1) = 2
2^2(x + 1) = 2^1 {changed both to have a common base of 2}
2(x + 1) = 1 {since these two were equal, with same base, set exponents equal}
2x + 2 = 1 {used distributive property}
2x = -1 {subtracted 2 from both sides}
x = -1/2 {divided both sides by 2}
