You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Adults x numbers , Price = $4.00
children y numbers , Price = $2.50
Total 13000
1 x + 1 y = 155 .............1
4 x + 2.5 y = 492.5 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by -2.5
Multiply (2) by 1
-2.5 x -2.5 y = -387.5
4 x + 2.5 y = 492.5
Add the two equations
1.5 x = 105
/ 1.5
x = 70
plug value of x in (1)
1 x + 1 y = 155
70 + 1 y = 155
1 y = 155 -70
1 y = 85
y = 85
Adults ----70
children --- 85

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
+a+ = number of students attending
+b+ = number of adults attending
given:
(1) +a+%2B+b+=+155+
(2) +2.5a+%2B+4b+=+492.5+
---------------------
(2) +25a+%2B+40b+=+4925+
(2) +5a+%2B+8b+=+985+
Multiply both sides of (1) by 5
and subtract (1) from (2)
(2) +5a+%2B+8b+=+985+
(1) +-5a+-5b+=+-775+
+3b+=+210+
+b+=+70+
and, since
(1) +a+%2B+70+=+155+
(1) +a+=+85+
85 students attended
70 adults attended
(2) +5%2A85+%2B+8%2A70+=+985+
(2) +425++%2B+560+=+985+
(2) +985+=+985+
OK
