You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The denominator of a fraction is 4 more than the numerator if both the numerator and denominator are increased by 1 the the resulting fraction equals 1/2 find the original fraction
:
Let x = the numerator
then
(x+4) = the denominator
:
%28%28x%2B1%29%29%2F%28%28x%2B4%29%2B1%29 = %28%28x%2B1%29%29%2F%28%28x%2B5%29%29 = 1%2F2
Cross multiply
2(x+1) = (x+5)
2x + 2 = x + 5
2x - x = 5 - 2
x = 3 is the numerator
then
3+4 = 7 is the denominator
and
3%2F7 is the original fraction
