Question 535748: Two trains leave the station at the same time, one heading west and the other east. The westbound train travels at 55 miles per hour. The eastbound train travels at 75 miles per hour. How long will it take for the two trains to be 182 miles apart?
Do not do any rounding.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
D=RT. In this case the rate is their combined rate, because we're interested in the distance between them. D=182. T is unknown.

182 = (55+75)T. ---> 182=130T (divide both sides by 130).

1.4 = T 1.4 hours or 1 hour and 24 minutes.
