The average height of the two forwards and the center of a basketball team is 6 feet, 8 inches. What must the average height of the two gaurds be so that the team average is at least 6 feet, 4 inches? This question is from textbook Elementary and Intermediate Algebra
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The average height of the two forwards and the center of a basketball team is 6 feet, 8 inches. What must the average height of the two gaurds be so that the team average is at least 6 feet, 4 inches?
--------
The two forwards and the center average 80 inches each.
Let the two guards average "x" inches.
[3(80)+2x]/5>=76
240+2x>=380
2x>=140
x>=70 inches
The average height of the two guards is >= 70 inches.
Cheers,
Stan H.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! (3*80+2X)/5=76*5 OR (240+2X)/5=380 OR 240+2X=1900 OR 2X=1900-240 OR 2X=1660 THUS THE TOTAL HEIGHT OF THE TWO GUARDS MUST BE AT LEAST 1660 INCHES. OR AN AVERAGE OF 5 FT 9 1/6 INCHES.
