sqrt%285-x%29-3=0
If so,
1. isolate your radical
2. square both sides Remember: highlight%28%28sqrt%28x%29%29%5E2=x%29
3. solve for x
4. check by substitution, you can do everything right and still get an extraneous solution (false solution) that is not really a solution with radicals
sqrt%285-x%29-3%2B3=0%2B3
sqrt%285-x%29=3
%28sqrt%285-x%29%29%5E2=3%5E2
5-x=9
-5%2B5-x=-5%2B9
-x=4
-%28-x%29=-%284%29
x=-4
Check by substituting -4 into the original equation to see if both sides equal:
