You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1st question: The diference between two numbers is 15 ,when twice the smaller number is subtracted from three times the larger number ,the difference is 58. what is the larger number?
Let one of the numbers be "x".
The other number is "15-x".
EQUATION:
3(15-x)=2x
45-3x=2x
5x=45
x=9 (one of the numbers)
15-x= 6 (the other number)
-----------------------------------
2nd question: Ann's age is seven tenths of bills age. in 4 years ann's age will be eight -elevenths of bills age , how old is bill? a 28 b 33 c 40 d 52
NOW DATA:
Let Bill's age now be "x".
Then Ann's age now is "(7/10)x".
------
IN FOUR YEAR'S DATA:
Bill will be "x+4"
Ann will be "(7/10)x+4"
-------
EQUATION:
(7/10)x+4 = (8/11)(x+4)
Multiply thru by 110 to get:
77x+440 = 80(x+4)
77x+440=80x+320
3x=110
x=36.33 or 36yrs. 4mths.
This doesn't fit your answers but that's the
way it works out.
-------------------------
3rd question: The sum of two numbers is 89 . adding four times the first number to the second number gives 155. which one of the following equations expresses this problem algebraically ? a (x-89)+4x=155 b 89+4x =155 c 4x+(89-x)=155 d 4(89+x)+x=155
Let the 1st number be "x"
Then the 2nd number is "89-x"
EQUATION:
4x+(89-x)=155
