D=RT
In the first case we can find the distance. R = 240 km/hr and T = 5 hr.
D = 240 km/hr * 5hr = 1200 km
Now we know the distance, which is the same distance as in the second case. D = 1200 km, T = 1.67 hr we can find the necessary rate.
First let's convert 1 and 2/3 into an improper fraction. To do that multiply 3 * 1 and add 2 to find the numerator. The denominator remains 3. So it's 5/3.
1200 km = R * 5/3hr Divide both sides by 5/3 to isolate R
1200km / 5/3 hr = R = remember that dividing by a fraction is the same as multiplying by the reciprocal of the fraction.
1200km * 3/5 (1/hr) = 3600/5 km/hr = R = 720 km/hr
