You can put this solution on YOUR website! Two mechanics worked on a car. The first mechanic worked for 10 hours, and the second mechanic worked for 15 hours. Together they charged a total of 2150 . What was the rate charged per hour by each mechanic if the sum of the two rates was 175 per hour? ------
 r1 + r2 = 175
 10r1 + 15r2 = 2150
 -----
 Multiply thru 1st by 10 to get:
 10r1 + 10r2 = 10*175
 10r1 + 15r2 = 2150
 ---
 Subtract and solve for r2
 5r2 = 400
 r2 = $80 per hr
 ---
 Solve for r1:
 r1 + r2 = 175
 r1 + 80 = 175
 r1 = $95 per hr
