a. x^2 -5x = 0
Factor out x
x(x - 5) = 0
two solutions
x = 0
x = +5
:
b. 4 + 2x = x^2
0 = x^2 - 2x - 4
this will not factor, has to be solved with the quadratic formula. Solutions are not integers
