Question 52894: Could you please help me find the missing step to reach the answer in the following problem?
Solve for the indicated variable:
S=(rL-a)/(b-a); solve for a.
The answer to this problem is a=Sb-rL/S-1
My first step is multiplying both sides by (b-a) and getting:
Sb-Sa=rL-a
Next I try to get both a's on the same side, so I move -Sa over to the right:
Sb=rL-a+Sa
Then I realize that once the S is gone on the right side, the a's will cancel.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You've done everything just fine up to Sb=rL-a%2BSa, so let's start from there. Now subtract rL from both sides and we get Sb-rL=Sa-a. Now let's factor the right side to get Sb-rL=a%28S-1%29. Now we can solve for a bu just dividing both sides by (S-1): %28Sb-rL%29%2F%28S-1%29=a.
