You can put this solution on YOUR website! Write an equation and solve. Find two consecutive odd integers whose sum is 176
----
1st: 2x-1
2nd: 2x+1
-----
Equation:
sum = 176
4x = 176
x = 44
----
1st: 2x-1 = 87
2nd: 2x+2 = 89

You can put this solution on YOUR website! You can define two consecutive odd integers as 'x' and 'y'.
But then you have two unknowns, which means you need two equations to solve it.
However, you can define the first odd integer as 'x'.
Then the next odd number will be 'x+2', skipping the even number in between.
.
x +x+2 = 176 (given)
.
2x = 174
.
x = 87
.
x+2 = 89
.
Answer: The two odd consecutive integers are 87 and 89.
.
Done.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Anytime you have consecutive odd or even integers, they are something, then something + 2, etc.
...
Let x = first integer
Let x + 2 = second integer
...
Given: sum of two consecutive odd integers = 176:
...
x + (x + 2) = 176
...
simplify:
2x + 2 = 176
...
subtract 2 from both sides:
2x = 174
...
divide both sides by 2:
x = 87, which is the 1st integer
x + 2 = 89, which is the 2nd integer...
...
Always check your work (don't want a dumb arithmetic mistake):
87 + 89 = 176
176 = 176 checks
...

Lee
