I have a 90% in my class, what will I need on the final exam worth 20% of my grade to get an 86% overall?
The 90% counts 80% and the final exam counts 20%.

Let x = your grade on the final exam. Then

80% of 90% + 20% of x = 86%

    (.80)(.90) + .20x = .86 
           .72 + .20x = .86
                 .20x = .14
                    x = .70

So a 70% on your final exam will bring your 90% down to an 86%.
