if your problem is 9/(x-5)-1=8/(x+5) then 9/(x-5)=8/(x+5)+1 or
8(x-5)=9(x+5)+9 or 8x-40=9x+45+9 or 9x-8x=45+9+40 or x=94
if the problem is (9/x)-5-1=(8/x)+5 or 9/x-6=8/x+5 or 9/x=8/x+5+6 or
9/x=8/x+11 or 8x=9x+99 or 9x-8x=-99 or x=99
