The problem is f(x)=xsquared -5.

you can look at this equation in different ways but one way is to see this equation as a standard form for a parabola: y=A(x-h)^2+k, with (h,k) being the (x,y) coordinates of the center.
For given equation: y=x^2-5
Vertex is at (0,-5)
To get more points plug in values of x.
But another way is to find x-intercepts:
x^2-5=0
x=±√5≈±2.24
You now have 3 points with which to plot the graph.
