Question 52415: I am having a problem with 11/14 over 4 - 6/7. I know to use the Order of Operations: Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction. Sometimes, I become stymied with some of the problems. Our professor doesn't explain the actual mechanics of a problem. I haven't been in school in 42 years. Answer by rapaljer(4671) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! I would suggest that you start by calculating 4-6/7 by finding a common denominator which is 7. This would be 28/7 - 6/7 = 22/7.
Now, find 11/14 divided by 22/7 by inverting the second number and multiplying.
Divide out the 11 into 22 which goes 2 times, and divide out the 7 into the 14 which also goes 2 times, and what is left is .
