Question 522982: Two cars leave town at the same time going in opposite directions.One travels at 70mi/h and the other at 55mi/h. In how many hours will they be 250 miles apart?
Answer by Maths68(1474) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Effective Speed = 70+55 = 125 mph
Distance = 250 miles
Time = Distance / Speed
Time = 250 / 125
Time = 2 hours

In 2 hours they will be 250 miles apart

Check
========
Distance will be covered by One car in 2 hours = 70*2 = 140 miles
Distance will be covered by 2nd car in 2 hours = 55*2 = 110 miles
Total Distance between two cars = 140+110 = 250 miles
