Question 521779: the cost of an adult ticket for the school play is 2.00. the cost of a student ticket is 1.50 the total income from the sale of tickets was 550.00. the number of adult tickets sold was 100 less than 3 times the number of student tickets sold. how many of each type of ticket was sold? systems of linear equations
i got the equations 2.00x+1.50y=550.0
x=3(times)y-100
im solving for substitution and i dont know what to do with the multiplication

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the cost of an adult ticket for the school play is 2.00. the cost of a student ticket is 1.50 the total income from the sale of tickets was 550.00. the number of adult tickets sold was 100 less than 3 times the number of student tickets sold. how many of each type of ticket was sold? systems of linear equations
i got the equations
---------------------
2.00x+1.50y=550.0
x=3(times)y-100
------------
substitute for "x" and solve for "y":
2(3y-100) + 1.5y = 550
6y -200 + 1.5y = 550
7.5y = 750
y = 100 (# of student tickets sold)
----
Solve for "x":
x = 3y-100
x = 200 (# of adult tickets sold)
