Question 519725: I need help in finding the domain of %28x-1%29%2F%28sqrt%28x%5E2%2B5x-14%29%29.
This is what I have:
1)x%5E2%2B5x-14=0
(x+7)(x-2)=0
x+7=0 OR x-2=0
x=-7 OR x=2
(-infinity,-7),(-7,2),(2,infinity)
Test: -8 0 3
sign: + - +
(-infinity,-7)U(2,infinity)
2)x%5E2%2B5x-14%3E=0
%28x%2B7%29%28x-2%29%3E=0
x%2B7%3C=0 OR x-2%3E=0
x%3C=0 OR x%3E=0

Domain= (-infinity,-7)U(-7,2)U(2,infinity)
{x|x is a real number, x is not -7, x is not 2, x%3C=-7,x%3E=2}

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The domain is

{x | x is a real number, x < -7 or x > 2)

in set builder notation. or

(-∞, -7) U (2, ∞)

in interval notation.

Note:
You don't need to put "x is not -7".
Be sure to use only "<" and ">"
Be sure NOT to use either "≦" or "≧".
Also (-7,2) is NOT included in the domain.
