Problem:
The perimeter of a swimming pool is 92m.The width is 4m more than half the length of the pool. Find the length and width of the pool.

The formula for perimeter is

given:
+W+=+L%2F2+%2B+4+
+P+=+92+ m
By substitution:
+P+=+2%2A%28+L%2F2+%2B+4+%29+%2B+2L+
+92+=+2%2A%28+L%2F2+%2B+4+%29+%2B+2L+
+92+=+L+%2B+8+%2B+2L+
+3L+=+92+-+8+
+3L+=+84+
+L+=+28+ m
and, since

+W+=+14+%2B+4+
