You can put this solution on YOUR website! You have a good method. Here's another way to get to the same equation. Let x be the original price. 10% of the original price is 0.10x. If the doll was sold at a loss of 10%, then the price it was sold at would be:
x - 0.10x
We know that the doll was sold at $45, so this gives the algebraic equation:
x - 0.10x = 45
0.9x = 45 (combining like terms)
Now we're back to the equation you figured out in a slightly different way.
