a^(1/3) x a^(1/2) = a^(1/3 + 1/2) = a^(5/6)

The 1/3 and the 1/2 are exponents of "a".
----
Since the bases is the same for both factors
you should add the exponents (1/2)+(1/3)
which gives you (3*1+2*1)/(2*3) = 5/6
