You can put this solution on YOUR website!
75+2m=80+1.5m
subtract 75 from both sides
subtract 1.5m from both sides
.5m=5
multiply both sides by 2
m=10 miles

Answer by josmiceli(19441) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let m = the distance in miles each traveled
Let +C+ = cost for each
Jesse's equation:
+C+=+75+%2B+2m+
Alex's equation:
+C+=+80+%2B+1.5m+
Since the each had the same cost,
+75+%2B+2m+=+80+%2B+1.5m+
+.5m+=+80+-+75+
+.5m+=+5+
+m+=+10+
Each traveled 10 miles
check answer:
+C+=+75+%2B+2%2A10+
+C+=+95+
and
+C+=+80+%2B+1.5%2A10+
+C+=+80+%2B+15+
+C+=+95+
OK
