Multiply both sides by 6

Clear the parentheses in the RHS.

Add -2x to both sides.

Add -1 to both sides.

Multiply both sides by -1

the LCD of the equation is 12
multiply each term by 12
12y+2=4(x-4)
12y+2=4x-16
-4x+12y=-18
4x-12y=18
