You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A car and a bus had to travel from destination A to B .
The car was driving 10 km/h faster than the bus.
After 3 hours and 30 minutes the car was to their B destination , while the bus had covered only 5/6 of that distance .
we have to find the distance between A and B and the speeds of the car and the bus
:
Find the speed of the vehicles first
s = speed of the bus
(s+10) = speed of the car
:
Write a distance equation: dist - speed * timer
:
Bus dist = 5/6 Car dist
3.5s = 5%2F63.5(s+10)
multiply both sides by 6
6(3.5s) = 5[3.5(s+10)]
21s = 17.5(s+10)
21s = 17.5s + 175
21s - 17.5s = 175
3.5s = 175
s = 175%2F3.5
s = 50 km/hr is the speed of the bus
then
50 + 10 = 60 km/hr is the speed of the car
:
Find the dist using the speed of the car: 3.5(60) = 210 km from A to B
:
:
Confirm this by finding the dist traveled by the bus: 3.5(50) = 175 km
175%2F210 reduces to 5%2F6
