Let the smaller number be y
from the data we get
x=5y-4
(or)x-5y=-4 (1)
x-y=4 (2)
(1)-(2) ,
-5y-(-y)=-4-4
-5y+y=-8
-4y=-8
Hence y=2
Using (2)
x-2=4
x=4+2
x=6
Hence x=6
