Let represent the number of cubic feet of soil that is 35% clay. Then is the amount of 10% clay (because the two amounts must total 10 cubic feet.) 10 cubic feet of 17% clay soil has 10 times 0.17 = 1.7 cubic feet of pure clay. cubic feet of 35% clay soil has cubic feet of pure clay, and cubic feet of 10% clay soil has cubic feet of pure clay.
