Question 512726: A runner ran 1.5 miles in 28 minutes and then 1.2 more mile in 10 minutes what was the average speed in miles per minute?
I need help explaining this to my daughter, It has been a long time since I did algebra word problems. Any help is greatly appreciated Answer by oberobic(2304) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! distance = 1.5 miles + 1.2 miles
distance = 2.7 miles
.
time = 28 min + 10 min
time = 38 min
.
Average speed = total distance / total time.
.
Note that "miles per minute" tells you to divide miles by minutes.
.
2.7 miles / 38 min = .07105 miles /min
.
Done.
